Baking For the Busy Woman

Do your children look forward to having that dessert after dinner? How about your husband and yourself for that matter? Making those homemade goodies takes time, something you may be short on in your daily life.

Don’t you just love the smell of pies or cakes baking in the oven. The scent fills the air and the house with that aroma only fresh baked goods can achieve. Wouldn’t you love to have homemade treats already made when unexpected guests arrive? With a little pre-planning you can.

With the winter months coming, there will be planned and unplanned visitors coming to your home for the holidays. Now is the time to start preparing for these events. Find recipes that freeze well and take a weekend to do your baking.

Plan your baking menu ahead of time. Know what you like to bake and go with that. Bundt cakes, and layer cakes freeze well before you frost them. Pies do also, but with the great smell going on in the kitchen, it will be hard to keep your family at bay.

Muffins and breads are another great thing to bake prior to the holiday season. Although, these can be baked year round for those mornings when you are rushed and have to eat something. You can make healthy muffins loaded with fiber that your family will love and they are so easy to serve your house guests. Doing breads, like banana, apple cinnamon, walnut, etc. are nice to have in the freezer for a quick finish to a luncheon.

In order to keep the expenses of baking from killing your budget in one week, start watching the weekly grocery ads for baking supplies that are one sale. Stock up on flour, sugar, butter, etc. when the store is marking the price down, this will save you lots of money. Most stores offer a buy one get one, take advantage of this if you can.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to bake, if you’re prepared. Making that list of what you want to make and a list of all the ingredients, simplifies the entire process. Most importantly, have fun while your baking.
