The Tasty Treat Of Delicious Waffles

Weekends are an oasis to many a working folk. There is nothing like getting up on Saturday morning and having the time to make a wonderful breakfast for the family. Waffles are typically a fan favorite. They are a hearty breakfast that will keep the troops rolling most of the morning. The kids will not be coming to you saying they are hungry right after breakfast. Waffles is a satisfying and delicious breakfast.

Waffles are made on a waffle iron. The batter is made by mixing together eggs, flour, oil, milk, sugar and baking powder. Once mixed, a batter is made. Additions such as chopped nuts, chocolate chips, blueberries, applesauce or banana slices can be added to make them unique.

Once the batter is made, about a cup is poured onto the hot waffle iron. It is easy to find many different types of irons in the stores today. A regular iron will create a waffle about one inch thick and round. It will give the diner about four pieces of waffle.

A Belgium iron makes a big, fluffy waffle. These monster waffles are about two inches thick. They are round and in four pieces. A traditional iron will make one big square. They are approximately 12 inches by 12 inches and made into four smaller squares. Each iron takes about five minutes to cook a waffle.

Traditionally waffles stuck to the irons. People would put butter on them to try to stop the sticking. The invention of Teflon was great as it created an iron in which the batter did not stick. The waffle easily pops out. There is no need to get frustrated with a messy waffle iron. Typically there is very little mess. The trick is to pour a little bit of batter on the hot iron and spread it over the iron with a spatula a little at a time.

Topping a waffle is always fun. Put on your thinking cap and get together some delicious toppings. Of course you may always put the maple syrup and butter on them. It is very good. However, for the thrill seekers, try topping the waffle with whipped topping and sprinkles, sliced fruit or even chocolate pieces. As for syrups, there are many in the stores to choose from. There are maple, sugar free, strawberry or blueberry syrups to try.

Waffles are one of those breakfast treats that most people enjoy. They are easy to make and even for the beginner cook. Creativity can abound when it comes to modifying the recipe or toppings. Make them special or make them plain, it does not matter the family will love them any way they come on the plate.
